Basic EFT Tapping Instructions
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
BASIC EFT PROCEDURE
STEP # 1: IDENTIFY THE ISSUE – NEGATIVE EMOTION
a) Help identify the Problem by filling in the Blanks:
I am feeling ____________________________________________________________________
at/or about ____________________________________________________________________
because _______________________________________________________________________
That makes me feel like I’m ________________________________________________________
because (or that reminds me of) ____________________________________________________
b) Determine your level of emotional intensity:
Where are you on a scale of stress? -- from ‘0’: it is no longer a problem to ‘10’ : it is very upsetting.
STEP # 2: SET-UP AFFIRMATION
a) State the Problem: “Even though I … (state the problem or emotion)…
NOTE: For best results, be as specific and detailed as possible.
b) Make Acceptance Statement: “I love and accept myself anyway and choose to be calm and confident.”
This is an example only. Use own words, as long as they are a statement of accepting yourself, even with the problem.
c) Tap continuously on the side of your hand (karate chop) while repeating the above two statements three times.
STEP # 3: TAPPING SEQUENCE
Tap about 7 to 10 times on the acupressure points listed below, stating a short reminder phrase at each point to keep you focused on the problem. Usually, a one or two word summary of the set-up statement makes a good reminder phrase.
STEP # 4: IDENTIFY and REPEAT
a) Take a deep breath and recheck your level of emotional intensity about issue.
b) Repeat tapping sequence if any emotion remains or if other issues come to mind. Could use the words: “Even though I STILL have SOME of this __________, I deeply love and accept myself”.
Reminder phrase could be: “Remaining _________.”
